Bataillean nightmare

I find myself in the middle of my dissertation, the struggle to start is over, the end is far away and lurking in the minimised window sits a chapter-length ramble that might never get back to the path. This is, in turn, becoming rather nihilist which isn’t even the topic I am aiming for.

So what is the point of this post? Well, it is to express my interest in the rather postmodernist direction I seem to be taking with my writing. My attitude is very much on the side of modernism, but it is becoming clear that some of my attitudes are in conflict with that world view. I guess the move from the ‘conventional’ in some areas is a positive thing; it allows for greater liberty and freedoms of expression. The danger, however, is that it slips to anarchy or difference for the sake of difference without purpose or the consideration of the rights of others.

I consider my philosophy to be Lockean in many areas, but it wouldn’t be original thought without some digression, which is also a healthy prevention against an eisegetical following of one text. So perhaps a little postmodernism is good, but only with a rational dialectic to justify such a leap.

So that is all I really wanted to say on the topic, this blog will take a few different turns, all of which I hope to keep interesting. Sometimes I will offer my thoughts on various philosophical problems, most likely in relation to my dissertation as the deadline draws nearer, but also I intend to look at marketing, social media and other online/tech based observations. In short a mashup of my day job and my degree.
